Meet WeatherWorks, AEM’s Newest Brand, and Their Certified Snowfall Totals®

Written by Anuj Agrawal | Oct 16, 2024 1:15:00 PM

Last month, we were proud to announce AEM’s acquisition of WeatherWorks, a specialized meteorological services provider for nearly four decades. As the latest addition to the AEM family of brands, WeatherWorks will help our customers in the U.S. and Canada increase their resilience through improved forecasting, proprietary data insights, and trustworthy reporting, especially in snow and ice markets. As we continue to integrate WeatherWorks’ team and technology into our portfolio, we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight why we’re so excited to have them on board.

Moving forward, we’ll…

WeatherWorks at a glance

The WeatherWorks story goes all the way back to 1960, when founder Frank Lombardo experienced the raw power of nature firsthand as Hurricane Donna nearly brought a tree down on him. That life-changing moment sparked a lifelong passion for weather, guiding Frank toward a career in meteorology. In 1986, he transformed that passion into a professional endeavor, establishing WeatherWorks as a one-man consultancy from the basement of his home.

Over the years, Frank became known as the go-to consulting meteorologist in the state of New Jersey and beyond. He was ahead of his time at packaging past, current, and forecast weather data into actionable operational intelligence for clients – that’s one of the reasons we feel like WeatherWorks is such a natural fit for the AEM mission and family.

After a decade of growth as a one-meteorologist operation, Frank began hiring to continue scaling the company and meet the demand of more clients. As WeatherWorks’ capabilities grew, the team grew too. WeatherWorks now staffs a team of 36 consulting meteorologists and offers a wide variety of services, including:

  • Snowfall Verification Data: Event-based hyperlocal snow and ice totals along with detailed narratives crafted by meteorologists. (Much more on this below!) Reliable reports and dashboards that let you track refreeze events to pinpoint black ice and inform decisions around ice and ice removal.
  • Forecast Services: Customized regional and national weather forecasting, monitoring, and decision support. 24/7/365 access to consulting meteorologists who can help you identify and respond to risks to manage properties and people intelligently.
  • Climatology Data: 25+ years of proprietary historical weather and climate data. A strong foundation of weather intelligence that helps organizations analyze past conditions to make informed strategic decisions.
  • Forensic Data & Consulting: Historical weather reports from a Certified Consulting Meteorologist analyze meteorological data for incidents, claims, and legal cases. Expert testimony to support you in weather-related legal matters.

Certified Snowfall Totals, just in time for winter

The WeatherWorks team has decades of combined experience and offers a broad range of capabilities, but we want to shine a light on one particular service that is especially relevant to many of our customers and partners in the US and Canada that deal with verification of wintry weather conditions: Certified Snowfall Totals or CST.

Certified Snowfall Totals is the original snowfall verification product and provides unbiased, quality-controlled snow and ice data, helping clients resolve disputes and streamline billing processes related to winter weather management. By providing a trusted verification source, CST fosters stronger partnerships built on transparency and confidence.

Here’s how it works:

That heavily validated process results in a data accuracy rate of 99.92% for WeatherWorks’ event-based and cumulative snow totals. The results are accessible at any time through a user-friendly app, or they can be integrated directly into your billing system to semi-automate report generation and create even more efficiency. Overall, Certified Snowfall Totals are a standout example of the unique services WeatherWorks provides, highlighting the company's commitment to delivering powerful, data-driven solutions.
